Biography

Aviante is a self-taught contemporary figurative artist born in Wisconsin in 1995. Art became an early space for expression and reflection, and his practice continued to develop after relocating to Los Angeles — a pivotal move in his artistic journey.

Working primarily in oil while also incorporating acrylic, aerosol, pastel, metallic leaf, and other mixed media, Aviante builds figurative works that balance careful observation with expressive interruption. His work has been presented through Gabba Gallery, Range Projects, and Taste of Soul, and his development has included mentorship through ARTLANTA and collaborations across his creative practice.

Artist Statement

My work explores resilience, transformation, identity, self-discovery, and connection. I am interested in the point where a carefully observed figure begins to fracture, dissolve, or shift — where realism can carry emotion but paint itself can carry memory, tension, and uncertainty.

Color, texture, symbolic forms, and selective abstraction allow me to move between what is visible and what is felt. I draw from Black culture, personal experience, spirituality, and the emotional language of figurative painting, building images that invite viewers to recognize something of themselves while leaving enough ambiguity for their own interpretation.

Practice

Aviante works primarily in figurative painting across oil, acrylic, and mixed media. His process often combines refined rendering with direct brushwork, layered surfaces, symbolic imagery, and controlled areas of lost information.
